Polymer modified bitumen 

In addition to bituminous products for maintenance measures, Latexfalt also produces polymer modified bitumen for asphalt mixtures. Polymer modified bitumens are mainly applied for the purpose of asphalt mixtures in overlays. The application of modified bitumen can positively influence the functional properties of asphalt mixtures. Through modification of the bitumen, an improved quality to the asphalt is realized, which ensures a longer life of asphalt structures. Polymer modified bitumen improves the properties of the asphalt pavement, providing better resistance to deformation and (heavy) traffic loads. In addition, the adhesion capacity is improved, elasticity, flexibility, flow behavior which ultimately ensures a longer life of the asphalt pavement. 

What are polymer modified bitumen or emulsions?

A polymer modified bitumen or emulsion is usually modified in two ways; using the polymers SBS or EVA, also a bitumen or emulsion can be modified with a latex polymer. An SBS polymer is a rubbery plastic, which gives SBS modifications an elastic character. By modifying bitumen SBS, a higher bonding strength is achieved, in addition, the bitumen is flexible and pliable in temperature changes. An EVA polymer is a wear-resistant plastic, where through an EVA modification a stronger bitumen is realized. The difference between SBS modification and EVA modification; with SBS modification an elastic bitumen is realized and with EVA modification a rigid bitumen is realized. 

What does polymer modified bitumen do?

Polymer modified bitumen greatly improves asphalt properties. Both SBS and EVA modifications are both capable of providing resistance to deformation, fatigue, cracking and fraying.
