Stress Absorbing Membrane (interlayer)

Weather influences, traffic intensity and aging can cause cracking in the asphalt and in the structure. Penetration of moisture can lead to accelerated aging, fraying, concrete rot or even collapse of the entire structure. Maintenance measures are therefore essential for keeping the asphalt and structure in good condition. SAMI is suitable for preservation of concrete and asphalt structures, also for stone or bituminous substrates. Finally, SAMI is used for adhesion of geo-textiles and reinforcement nets. 

What is SAMI? 

SAMI stands for; Stress Absorbing Membrane (Interlayer) and refers to a maintenance system on asphalt or concrete structures. The application of a bituminous SAMI product extends the life of the asphalt or structure. In road construction, the application of a SAMI layer is also called a liquid-proof membrane and has a water-repellent and stress-absorbing effect. The SAMI provides a waterproof- and crack-inhibiting layer, which acts to make the asphalt or concrete structure waterproof and/or slow down the cracking process. 

What does SAMI do?

The SAMI layer provides a waterproof and crack-inhibiting construction between 2 asphalt layers or concrete and asphalt layers. The application involves a relatively thin bituminous intermediate layer, in the middle of the asphalt or concrete construction. A SAMI product concerns a highly modified bitumen emulsion, where in some cases a two-layer system is advised. There is also the possibility of a colorable SAMI layer, as a color signaling and safety layer. Besides the supply of SAMI products, Latexfalt also takes care of the application of these products by means of our spray trucks. After application of the SAMI layer, it is then sprinkled with crushed stone. SAMI treatment is also suitable for smaller surfaces, such as maintenance of wooden bridge decks.

Latexfalt® Safegrip SE

Latexfalt Safegrip SE is a polymer modified bitumen emulsion. This SAMI concerns the standard bitumen emulsion which has been specially developed for membranes and surface treatments. Safegrip SE has a water-repellent and stress-absorbing effect, to protect or strengthen asphalt structures and concrete structures. For optimal protection, a two-layer system is required Safegrip SE to be fitted.

Latexfalt® Safegrip Color

Latexfalt Safegrip Color SE is a polymer modified and colorable bitumen emulsion.
This product is used for the preservation of concrete and asphalt structures. Also as a protective layer on wooden bridge decks. Safegrip Color SE serves as protection against deterioration and penetration of water and de-icing salts.
Color signaling between the layers is also possible as a signaling and security layer.
